Incorporating human factors in the driver behaviour models (Dr. Anshuman Sharma, BHU Varanasi, India)
Le 2 juillet 2026
Understanding how drivers behave is central to designing safer and more efficient transportation systems. While many driver behaviour models have been developed over the past several decades, most of them simplify how drivers perceive, react, and interact with traffic. In reality, driving behaviour is influenced by human factors such as perception, anticipation, decision-making, and individual variability. Ignoring these aspects can limit the accuracy and usefulness of traffic models, especially in complex and mixed traffic conditions commonly seen in many cities. This talk highlights recent efforts to incorporate human factors into driver behaviour models. It presents examples of how accounting for differences in vehicle types—such as buses—and their operational characteristics can improve our understanding of traffic dynamics. It also discusses how drivers do not behave consistently at all times; instead, their behaviour varies depending on context, experience, and surrounding conditions...
