During the past two decades, the steady increase in the power of parallel super-computers participated heavily in developing 3D unsteady CFD modeling approaches. Turbulent combustion modeling strongly benefited from this evolution as it enabled to increase the problem size, improve the chemistry description or include more physics. However, exploiting modern super-computers still remains challenging especially when combining different flow physics such as atomization, evaporation, conjugate and radiative heat transfer.
The presentation will be focused on the YALES2 platform, which is used by a large community of researchers and engineers for the prediction of unsteady multi-physics flows in realistic geometries. Some specific solvers and features of the platform will be detailed: radiative and conductive heat transfers, liquid/gas interface capturing, Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) of massive tetrahedral grids. These solvers will be illustrated in various large- scale applications. The collaborative and agile development of the platform will also be discussed.
